How the FDA Let Medications From Banned Foreign Factories Into the U.S. Here's what our investigation found:
ProPublica (@propublica.org):
For @propublica.org's new story: "His Kidney Failed. He’ll Never Know if a Transplant Drug From a Banned Factory Was to Blame." ProPublica tested a patient's generic version of Tacrolimus. The results show his medication dissolved way too quickly.
ProPublica (@propublica.org):
Joe DeMayo (a Phillies fan!) didn’t know that while his transplanted kidney was failing, the capsules he took could've left him vulnerable. The FDA repeatedly found problems at the plant where those drugs were made, but allowed some medications — including Joe's — to continue flowing to the US.
ProPublica (@propublica.org):

ProPublica (@propublica.org):
NEW: When Joe DeMayo’s donated kidney started to fail earlier than expected, he didn’t know that the drug he was taking could’ve left him vulnerable — and that one of the most formidable drug regulators in the world may have failed to protect him.
ProPublica (@propublica.org):

NY bans anonymous child welfare reports thanks, in part, to Eli Hager’s reporting on a Brooklyn mother whose apartment was searched dozens of times — by police and caseworkers who never had a warrant — because an angry former acquaintance kept anonymously calling the hotline about her.
ProPublica (@propublica.org):
The new law would maintain the confidentiality of callers to the child abuse hotline, just not their anonymity. That means if someone calls in, they can still be assured that the state will not reveal their identity to the alleged abuser or publicly in any way.
